Google To Finance $100 Million For YouTube

Google plans to create 20 special channels on its YouTube site, and will spend $100 million to create original programming to populate them, according to sources who talked with the Wall Street Journal.

Like Netflix announced last month, Google wants to create its own streaming video programs, however, according to the WSJ sources, the company will create low-cost programming designed specifically for the web and YouTube, and support the shows with advertising. The sources said this will be a "major overhaul" to YouTube, which already has a lucrative advertising system in place.

Jolie Says People Fleeing Libya Need Support

Actress and goodwill ambassador Angelina Jolie appealed on Tuesday for international support for people fleeing the conflict in Libya and for increased aid for those inside the country.

Jolie, a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations' refugee agency UNHCR who visited the Libyan-Tunisian border, said recent arrivals from Libya had told her about heavy fighting, harassment and assaults.

More than 400,000 people have fled Libya to Tunisia, Egypt, Niger, Algeria, Chad and Sudan since February when rebels rose up against Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. More than half have arrived in Tunisia.

"The international community has done well to reinforce Tunisia's remarkable relief effort," Jolie said in a UNHCR statement. "But with 2,000 people still crossing each day, we cannot let the funding dry up and need to sustain the momentum."

Blackberry Bold Touch 9930 video tutorials reveal the new BB OS 6.1

Video demos of version 6.1, the next iteration of the Blackberry OS, surfaced online and by the looks of it... it's much like ver6.0. The videos also show the not yet announced Blackberry Bold Touch 9930. The phone featured in the videos is no less than a novelty on its own. It will be the first BlackBerry to have a small touch screen nested inside BlackBerry's well-known bar-shaped QWERTY keyboard form factor.

That being said, pinch zooming appears to be the biggest highlight of the new edition of the OS though the previous version had it too. The rest of the features are far from breathtaking and pretty much end with the improved look of the homescreen and the redesigned icons.

Some Salmon Can Take The Heat

The Chilko sockeye is the Michael Phelps of salmon. Once a year, it swims 650 kilometers up British Columbia’s Fraser River, fighting rapids and strong currents, to reach a spot where it can lay and fertilize its eggs. New research reveals that the fish is well-adapted to this journey—it has a bigger, better heart and uses oxygen more efficiently than do other local salmon. And thanks to these attributes, the Chilko sockeye may be more likely than these other fish to survive a warming world.
